Learning how to style my own hair
Originally published on BeChicMag.com in 2016
Hi, everyone! I had so much fun working on this blog post. By now you may already know it was only a few months ago that I stopped going to the beauty parlor to style my hair. Instead I’ve been blow drying and styling my hair on my own at home.
When I was in my early twenties I was more daring with my hair. I even got a short bob, and now that I think about it, it wasn’t so hard to maintain.
I thought of going this short again earlier this year but instead I kept it long taking only four inches off.
Now that I’ve been doing my own hair, I’ve been using tools like a blow dryer, curling wand and flat iron more frequently. I’m beginning to see some signs of damage. But I recently got my hands on the new Dove Regenerative Nourishment with Red Algae and Keratin NutriComplex which helps to eliminate signs of extreme damage.
Dove found that 76% of women have damaged hair, and 10% have extremely damaged hair. So while the shampoo and conditioner pictured above eliminate signs of damage and nourish your hair, respectively, the Serum-in-Oil restores the hair’s appearance making it shiny, and prevents breakage and split ends.
I thought I’d show you my step-by-step routine using the new Dove Regenerative Nourishment Collection in the photos below. Watch my”first impressions” video towards the end of the post.
After washing my hair with the shampoo and conditioner, I applied some of the Serum-in-Oil (avoiding the roots). I then let my hair air dry, and about an hour later I began to style it with the curling wand and blow dryer.

I had long hair as a child, through college and pretty much always. And now that I’ve been doing television segments for the past five years, my viewers have also grown to know me with long hair. It’s part of who I am but I’m willing to do a bob again sometime soon. In the meantime I will continue nourishing my hair.
What about you? What’s your hair story? Have you tried a daring hairstyle or haircut?
