How to prevent breakouts with an oil-free acne wash

Share

In 2010 I started an “Adult Acne Diary” series on BeChicMag.com. At the time I was trying to get rid of adult acne. Throughout high school and college I was zit free. But then in my late 20’s I started getting pimples. The worst part was the red scar I was left with once the zit was gone. I think the breakout was a result of stress, fried food and genetics. I went to a dermatologist who helped me get clear skin without using retinol or other chemicals. Today, my skincare routine consists of drugstore products like Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Wash.

For the past couple of years I’ve started my morning routine with a facial wash followed by sunscreen. In the summer time, I prefer using a light facial cleanser like Neutrogena’s Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser which treats and prevents breakouts without irritating the skin.

In the winter I usually use a creamier facial cleanser to moisturize my skin. But the grapefruit cleanser I’ve been using for the past couple of weeks is gentle enough for everyday use. It even delivers a blast of naturally derived grapefruit extract and Vitamin C.

For the most part my skin has been pretty clear now that I’ve learned how to take better care of it throughout the years. But just like you, I get an unexpected pimple once in a while. To give you a personalized skin routine, Neutrogena came up with an online quiz you can take at SolveMyAcne.com. I took the quiz and here are my results:

To treat those annoying zits, the quiz suggests I use their Acne Treatment.

The On-the-Spot Treatment provides maximum results without drying your face. It contains only 2.5% of Benzyol Peroxide. I like that it’s oil-free and non-comedogenic (it won’t clog pores).

The tube said to apply sunblock before going outside and that’s exactly what I did. I applied a lightweight sunblock under my tinted moisturizer before leaving the house.

Ideally, I should remove my makeup with the same cleanser and add an evening moisturizer or the Rapid Clear Stubborn Acne Daily Leave-On Mask before going to bed, but that doesn’t always happen.

I try to keep makeup remover towelettes close to my bed for those lazy nights. Neutrogena has the Oil-Free Cleansing Wipes Pink Grapefruit for Acne Prone Skin.

I invite you to read through my six-year Adult Acne Diary. Let me know if you have any questions about these particular products or about my journey to clear skin. Don’t forget to take the Solve My Acne quiz for your personalized routine.
